The perfect smell-removing air purifier didn’t exist. So we built it.

That’s the short version of Smell Away’s origin story, and what led our serial entrepreneur founder Gareth to invest a hefty chunk of his own money in developing the ultimate air cleaner and purifier.

Fast-forward a few years and Smell Away Ltd is a thriving family-owned, family-operated business based on a business park in the seaside town of Prestatyn in North Wales. As Gareth likes to say, Smell Away® gives you “luxuriously clean air”, and that’s what we’re all about.

Our philosophy is simple: to bring you the very best smell-removing air cleaner and purifier for home and business, with fast delivery and outstanding customer service that helps you get the most from your purchase. How it started

It all began with Bea and Blu – Gareth and his wife Sarah’s two house cats or, more specifically, their stinky litter tray. Said litter tray was, unavoidably, in the dining room, and let’s just say nobody needs that when they’re trying to have a nice meal.

Gareth didn’t really fancy having to drill large holes through the wall of their house and wire up an extractor fan, so he got onto Google. To his surprise, he couldn’t find an air purifier that would actually remove grim smells from the air and lock them away in a non-smelly manner.

So he spent the next two years researching, developing and testing just such a device. Here’s how it panned out.

Feb 2020: the lightbulb moment. Thanks Bea and Blu.

March 2020: research and development began, with the challenge of trapping smells keeping Gareth occupied during lockdown.

August 2021: many prototypes later, the first effective, functioning Smell Away® was born!

September 2021: with injection moulding specialist Nick on board, work began on creating the factory tooling needed to make Smell Away® at scale.

October 2021: Smell Away® went from newborn invention to fully formed business, website and all.

Sept 2022: tooling complete and ready for lift-off.

December 2022: processes tested, the first orders already out there banishing nasty odours, and time to spread the word nationally.

How it’s going

Still with Gareth and Sarah at the helm, Smell Away® has grown into a dedicated team who all share our belief in helping people rid their homes and businesses of horrid smells and enjoy better air quality.

We’re proud of our very low returns rate, and once upon a time we’d never have imagined all the different ways Smell Away® is now used – from banishing odours in nursing homes to dealing with dead rat smells.
