The Smell Away® Specialist Air Purifier removes smells from dogs, cats, cigarettes, smoke, damp and cooking, and traps dust, pollen, pathogens and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) inside the unit. Unlike a standard HEPA air purifier, it passes air through 1 kg of Australian RC412 activated carbon to adsorb odours at the source, and the HEPA version also captures pollen and fine dust down to 1 micron.

Frequently asked questions
What smells does the Smell Away® Air Purifier remove?
Smell Away® removes most common household smells and is especially effective on odours from dogs, cats, cigarettes, smoke and tobacco, cooking, and musty smells from damp and mould. It does not work on formaldehyde, strong acid fumes or acetone.
How is Smell Away® different from a normal HEPA air purifier?
Smell is not a particle, so a HEPA filter on its own cannot trap it. Smell Away® passes air through 1 kg of Australian RC412 activated carbon, which adsorbs odour molecules and VOCs and holds them inside the unit. The HEPA version also captures particles down to 1 micron, including tree and grass pollen.
How long does a Smell Away® filter last, and is it easy to change?
A Smell Away® replacement filter lasts 1 to 2 years depending on how often the unit runs and the type of smell. Changing it needs only a screwdriver, and the genuine replacement HEPA filter arrives in a fleece sleeve.
Which replacement fan fits the Smell Away® Air Purifier?
The genuine Smell Away® fan is a 100 mm (4 inch) axial flow inline fan rated at 240 V and 14 W, with an on/off switch, a 1.8 m cable and a quiet ball-bearing motor. It is easy to fit and also suits hydroponic, bathroom or kitchen ventilation.
How much electricity does the Smell Away® use?
Smell Away® uses just 14 watts, similar to an energy-saving light bulb. At 35p per kWh that is about 0.49p per hour, and the unit can be left running continuously.
How loud is the Smell Away® Air Purifier?
Very quiet. The sound level is 52 decibels at 1 metre, which is quieter than trickling water.
Is Smell Away® safe for children and pets?
Yes. There is nothing toxic in the activated carbon, and the 4 mm square openings on the top grille meet British Standards so a child cannot reach the fan. It is also a pet-friendly alternative to air freshener sprays and plug-ins.
How big a room will the Smell Away® cover?
Smell Away® processes 100 cubic metres of air per hour, enough for a very large room. It works best indoors, standing on the floor close to the source of the smell, with doors and windows closed.
Where are Smell Away® products made and shipped from?
The Smell Away® Specialist Air Purifier is made in North Wales, UK, and the replacement HEPA filter and fan both have the United Kingdom as their country of origin. Every order is dispatched from North Wales.
Where can I buy genuine Smell Away® replacement parts?
Genuine, brand new Smell Away® replacement HEPA filters, replacement fans and complete Smell Away® Specialist Air Purifier units are sold through the eBay listings linked on this page. Every listing is for new, unused stock.
